Title: The AI Opportunity: Why Students Want Librarians in Their Workflows
Date & Time: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 2:50–3:20pm CEST, Room 145
Speaker: Rob Moore, Development Manager, Technology from Sage
Generative AI is rapidly reshaping academic research. A 2025 survey of 1,000+ students and 300 librarians found over half of students use AI tools like ChatGPT, yet only 8% received librarian support (Librarian Futures Report Part IV). Still, over 50% said they’d feel more confident using AI if recommended by a librarian—highlighting a clear opportunity for librarians to lead in responsible AI use and embed the library into evolving research workflows.
In this session, we’ll explore the key findings from the report and share insights on student AI use, skills librarians need to lead the AI frontier, and strategies to position the library as an essential guide in an AI-driven environment. The session will also address how librarians can influence AI policy and procurement to ensure equitable access and support student success.
Title: Ensuring Discovery beyond the Library Catalogue: A Use Case from University of Leeds Libraries
Date & Time: Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 11:15–11:45am CEST, Room 103
Speakers: Ceilan Hunter-Green, Metadata and Discovery Manager, University of Leeds and Rob Moore, Development Manager, Technology from Sage
A recent University of Leeds survey revealed that 79% of their students start their research on the library catalogue Primo. Juxtaposed with recent Technology from Sage research into undergraduate workflows which found that 63% search for resources on Google before visiting their library website, this raises important questions about how libraries can better understand and meet the diverse needs of their student communities.
In this session, discover how the University of Leeds Libraries have adopted an inside-out approach by leveraging Lean Library and targeted marketing—such as Primo banners, digital displays across study spaces, and outreach to customer-facing colleagues—to reach audiences. We’ll also share emerging global insights, including the growing role of ChatGPT and generative AI in research, and discuss how libraries can provide trusted resources, citation guidance, and AI support to ensure seamless and accessible research experiences for all.
